6,000 cycling enthusiasts rode immersed in the beauty of the Sienese landscapes to the unique finish line of Piazza del Campo, after having tackled some of the gravel sections of the pro race. The Gran Fondo Strade Bianche by Enel put an end to three days of great cycling in and around Siena on the occasion of the Strade Bianche.
After the successes of Tadej Pogacar and Lotte Kopecky, 6,000 amateurs turned up this morning at the start of the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche by Enel to revive the emotions of the pro races. This event has no equivalent in the world, considering its breath-taking landscapes and the echoes of the victories of the great cycling champions.
The excited faces at the start from the Medici Fortress, the smiles and the raised arms at the finish in Piazza del Campo testify how the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche by Enel has now established itself as one of the favourite amateur events in Italy as well as in the whole world.
It was the ‘whitest’ Gran Fondo Strade Bianche by Enel ever.
Compared to the 2021 edition, in fact, the long route has been updated: the kilometres have risen from 139 to 142 and the gravel sections from 8 to 10, with the debut of sector n° 5 of Serravalle (10.7km) and the n° 7 of Monte Sante Marie (11.5km) – the one dedicated to Fabian Cancellara – and where the men’s race was decided yesterday with the acceleration of Slovenian ace Pogacar.
New scenarios, unprecedented views and unique emotions for the 6000 amateurs who were able to ride over 22 km more of gravel roads than in the past edition, for a total of almost 55 km of gravel road, i.e. 38.5% of the route.
The Gran Fondo Strade Bianche by Enel was once more characterized by a technical and demanding route, which reflects the vocation of this race and of these lands, a unique setting for cycling together, immersed in the beauty of the Sienese landscapes to the finish, the incomparable Piazza del Campo in Siena.
