More than 7,000 amateurs, 60% of whom from Italy and 40% from abroad, turned up at the start of the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche Enel, the event organised by RCS Active Team which closed the weekend of great cycling in the Crete Senesi region. The most represented nations, with over 300 participants, were Italy, Belgium, Great Britain and Holland. Some of the countries represented at the start included New Zealand, Lebanon, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Iceland, Australia and India among others.
Nine sectors were tackled, with the start given at the Fortezza Medicea and the arrival in Piazza del Campo, the same venue of yesterday’s triumphs by Lotte Kopecky and Tadej Pogacar. The excellent numbers are evidence of the success of the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche Enel, by now one of the most popular cycling events in Italy and beyond.
